Vol. 514 No. 6

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

John Bruton

Question:

125 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will immediately process an application for a work permit made by a company (details supplied) in County Meath which has provided all the documentation required by her Department; the reason for the delay in processing the application; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5160/00]

The application form submitted by the company concerned in the case in question did not contain the relevant Garda stamp certifying that the individual in respect of whom the application was made was legally in the State.

Accordingly, it will be necessary for the applicant to submit details of the individual's residency status to my Department before a decision can be taken on the case. The applicant should also furnish evidence of prior attempt(s) to recruit an Irish or other European economic area national for the job concerned.

When this information is received, my Department will be in a position to take a quick decision on the application.
