Question:

133 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number registered on the foreign birth register entitled to Irish citizenship and, in particular, the number registered to 30 June 1986 under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956; the number registered under the same Act from 1 July 1986 to date. [4992/00]

Between 17 July 1956 and 30 June 1986 the births abroad of 13,516 persons deriving Irish citizenship from a father or mother also born outside Ireland were registered in the foreign births register in the Department of Foreign Affairs. From 1 July 1986 to 18 February 2000 the number of such births so registered was 57,217.
