Vol. 515 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Michael Creed

Question:

137 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if he will give favourable consideration to the towns in Duhallow as potential venues for decentralised Government offices in view of the serious job losses in the region. [5364/00]

Enda Kenny

Question:

142 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the criteria which will apply for the designation of towns to have decentralisation facilities approved; if local authorities can submit claims to his Department for this, based on facilities and land available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5404/00]

Ulick Burke

Question:

151 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has for the relocation of a Government Department, or part thereof, to Loughrea, County Galway, which is ideally located and has adequate accommodation and buildings for any relocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5574/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 137, 142 and 151 together.

Following the announcement in my Budget Statement that the time has come to start a further round of decentralisations, I am at present considering the many issues relevant to decentralisation policy and I propose to discuss these with my colleagues in Government shortly. Until the matter has been considered by the Government no decisions will be taken in relation to the centres to which Departments-offices will be relocated. While my Department has received many succinct and well prepared representations from local authorities I am not in a position to comment on the issue of local authority facilities and land availability at this time or indeed the specific locations to which Departments-offices may be decentralised.
