Vol. 515 No. 1

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

173 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason funding was not provided for the proposed road from Ardrostig Cross to Curraheen Road in Cork as requested by Cork Corporation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5343/00]

The proposed link road between Ardrostig Cross and Curraheen Road was not among the eight schemes included in Cork Corporation's application for funding under the specific improvement grants scheme in 2000. A subsequent request was received at end 1999 for special funding for this scheme in 2000.

A total of four schemes submitted by Cork Corporation was approved for funding under the specific improvement grants scheme in 2000; these did not include the Ardrostig Cross/ Curraheen link road. The selection of the four schemes was made having regard to the eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 2000. Cork Corporation has been allocated a total of £2,963,000 in non-national road grants for 2000, an increase of 11% on its 1999 allocation.
