Enda Kenny

Question:

182 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the schemes approved for sewerage development under the rural town and village initiative for each county for 2000; the amount approved in each case; if this scheme will continue in 2001 to cater for developments in these categories not included in this year's programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5410/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 181 and 182 together.

Details of the schemes approved under the rural towns and villages initiative, including three in County Mayo, are contained in my Depart ment's 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme annual report, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. The initiative was introduced in the 1999 budget with a provision of £45 million over three years, later increased to £80 million over the four years up to 2002.
All the available funding has been committed. Accordingly, as the schemes referred to have not been included in the initiative, they will fall to be considered as part of the normal water services investment programme. In this context the Belcarra scheme is 17th, the Bohola scheme 18th and the Lahardaun scheme 19th on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Mayo County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water and sewerage services investment programmes for this and future years under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.

Question:

184 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to provide a sewerage scheme for the Killygordon area of County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5419/00]

The scheme is 23rd on the list of waste water schemes submitted by Donegal County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water services investment programmes for this and future years under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
