Question:

140 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance if he has satisfied himself on the value of the euro against other currencies; the noticeable difficulties, if any, for trading in the market place outside the European Union; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5390/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 43 and 140 together.

As Minister for Finance, I have not commented in the past on either the Irish pound exchange rate or the euro exchange rate and I do not now propose to make any specific comment on the euro exchange rate.

As regards the position of certain firms trading with the sterling area or other markets outside the euro-zone, this is a matter for consideration in the first instance by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and I suggest that the Deputy supply the relevant details to that Department.
