Written Answers. - Personal Computers.

Question:

87 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the number of personal computers discarded or disposed of by his Department in 1999 or the latest period for which figures are available. [5435/00]

An in-depth assessment was carried out during 1999 of all PCs as part of the Department's year 2000 compliance programme. Where possible the Department upgraded PCs to achieve Y2K compatibility. Where no upgrade was possible the individual PCs, totalling 61, were replaced. The number of PCs replaced represents 14% of the total inventory held by the Department. The 61 PCs are currently being disposed of by the Department.
