Vol. 515 No. 2

Written Answers. - Funding for People with Disabilities.

Brendan Smith

Question:

94 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the stage of planning of the proposed regional assessment and treatment centre for children with physical disabilities to be located in Cavan as proposed by the North Eastern Health Board and Cerebral Palsy Ireland; when funding will be allocated in respect of this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5369/00]

The proposal for a regional assessment and treatment centre for children with physical and sensory disabilities has been drawn up jointly by the North-Eastern Health Board and Cerebral Palsy Ireland and their comprehensive model for services and the costed business plan has the support of the local co-ordinating committee for physical and sensory disability services. This proposal has been identified as a priority service development for children with disabilities in the north-east.

The health board had already allocated funding for the provision of paediatric therapy posts for this service and this year is providing additional revenue funding for the implementation of the first phase of the plan.
