Vol. 515 No. 2

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Jim Higgins

Question:

120 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works can relieve flooding on portions of streams and drains which were not previously maintained by that office and are currently the subject of flooding. [5666/00]

The Arterial Drainage (Amendment) Act, 1995 empowers the Office of Public Works to undertake drainage schemes for the alleviation of localised flooding problem. However, any such schemes must be shown to be economically viable, environmentally acceptable and have no adverse impacts elsewhere in the area.
