Bernard Allen

Question:

Question:

170 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on a recent survey carried out on motor neurone disease where it was found that 1 in 60 patients referred to an association (details supplied) had been misdiagnosed. [5681/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 169 and 170 together.

I am aware of the research mentioned by the Deputy. I understand that the level of misdiagnosis in this country, indicated by the research, compares favourably with levels in other countries.

I understand that further research is required to confirm the apparently higher incidence of the disease in the north west region. I also understand that the research into this condition is ongoing.
