Enda Kenny

Question:

193 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the expenditure in the national plan in respect of small sewerage schemes; the amount allocated to these schemes in 2000; the criteria involved for allocation of the remaining estimated amounts for schemes in the remaining period of the plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5711/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 192 and 193 together.

The National Development Plan, 2000-2006 provides for expenditure of £420 million on the rural water programme, including small public water and sewerage schemes. I expect to announce this years rural water block grant allocations to county councils within the next few weeks. Responsibility for the selection of individual projects for funding from the block grants has been devolved to councils. Details of the priorities and objectives of the NDP funding for rural water and sewerage schemes will be set out in the respective regional operational programmes which will be published in the near future.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

194 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in relation to a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Donegal prioritised by the county council and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5720/00]

The scheme is third on the list of wastewater schemes submitted by Donegal County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water services investment programmes for this and future years under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.
