Vol. 515 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

198 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be approved for a free electricity allowance and a free television licence. [5697/00]

The free schemes such as free electricity allowance and free TV licence are available to people, living in the State, aged 66 or over, who are in receipt of a welfare type payment, and who are living alone or with certain specified excepted people.

The person concerned is residing with his wife who is employed. As such she is not an excepted person for the purposes of these schemes. He is not, therefore, entitled to benefit under these free schemes.

In the event that there is a material change in the circumstances of the household, it is open to the person concerned to re-apply for these benefits.
