Vol. 515 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

David Stanton

Question:

136 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make funds available to enable essential upgrading works to be carried out on Fota Road, Cobh, County Cork; if so, the date in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6272/00]

Cork County Council submitted 21 applications to my Department for consideration under the specific improvement grants scheme in 2000, including an application for funding of £200,000 for the R624 Cobh road realignment, Fota-Belvelly.

This application, together with all other applications under the specific improvement grants scheme, was considered in my Department, having regard to the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 2000. In the event, the R624 road realignment project was not among the 12 projects totalling £3,005,203 which were selected from the Cork County Council submission for advancement in 2000 under this scheme.
