Vol. 515 No. 5

Written Answers. - Broadcasting Legislation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

15 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the precise changes, if any, she proposes in respect of amendments to broadcasting legislation; when it was decided to introduce these changes; the basis on which these changes were decided; if she will give details of the new procedures in respect of broadcasting and access to networks; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6408/00]

The Deputy will be aware that I have indicated my intention to bring forward amendments to the Broadcasting Bill, 1999, on Committee Stage, relating to the relaxation on the prohibition on religious advertising and increases in the annual amounts RTE are required to make available for independent television productions.

I have, of course, received many suggestions for other amendments to the Bill from a wide range of interested parties to which I am giving consideration and on which I will then consult my Cabinet colleagues.
