Vol. 515 No. 5

Written Answers. - Natural Heritage Areas.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

34 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of heritage projects run by the private and public sectors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6409/00]

I assume that the projects referred to in the question are sites with a guide information service which are open to the public.

At present 67 such sites are operated by the heritage service of my Department. I propose to circulate a list of these sites in the Official Report in the form of a tabular statement.

I am not aware of the precise number of such sites operated by the private sector. I understand, however, that recent studies by Bord Fáilte have shown that there are at least 250.
