I understand from An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that some initial expressions of interest from potential Irish investors in the farming of cod have been received to date this year. While up to date information has been made available to these interested parties, there have been no further developments to date.
Farmed cod will, it is believed by UK industry experts, eventually complement the wild catching sector and prove attractive to specific niche markets.
An Bord Iascaigh Mhara will continue to provide assistance in the feasible development of new aquaculture species consistent with market opportunities and the development of new technology.
