Vol. 515 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Services.

Noel Ahern

Question:

73 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children if the scheme, administered by his Department, whereby people over 70 can obtain hearing aids is free; if a medical card is necessary; the managing agent of the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter [6533/00]

The National Rehabilitation Board is responsible for providing a hearing aid service, free of charge, to persons with medical card entitlements. Where individuals are not entitled to a medical card and where they are in need of this service they may apply to their health board for special consideration. Referrals to the National Rehabilitation Board hearing aid service for medical card holders are made by their general practitioners or by their local health board area medical officer.
