Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Air Corps Operations.

Bernard Allen

Question:

104 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the observations, if any, his Department has in respect of a recent planning application by the FAI to South Dublin County Council in connection with a proposal to build a stadium; his views on the proposed stadium following consultation with the Air Corps and taking into consideration the unpublished Snow report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6920/00]

My Department has lodged an objection with South Dublin County Council in connection with an application by the FAI to erect a new stadium at Gibbons townland as the proposal may impact on the Department's policy in relation to the safety of aviation operations and the future development of Casement aerodrome. In this regard, it is proposed to meet representatives of the FAI in the near future to discuss the matter with a view to clarifying the implications of their proposal.

The consultants report in relation to air safety, including the training and operational requirements of the Air Corps, at Casement Aerodrome is under examination by my Department. I expect the matter to be concluded at an early date.
