Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Willie Penrose

Question:

124 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the type of licence required for a person to erect a de-boning room facility; if a grant is payable from his Department in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6661/00]

Fresh meat establishments, such as de-boning room facilities, are required to be approved by my Department under the European Communities (Fresh Meat) Regulations, 1997.

The requirements of these regulations do not apply to the cutting and storage of fresh meat performed in retail shops or in premises adjacent to sales points, where the cutting and storage are performed solely for the purpose of supplying the consumer.

There are no grants payable by my Department for the construction of such a facility.
