Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Stadium.

Joe Higgins

Question:

149 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Finance the cost of maintaining all the State operations at Abbotstown on the 275 acres of land which is surplus to the requirements of the sports campus, as opposed to the cost of relocation to Backweston. [6599/00]

As it would be inappropriate to locate the laboratory and other facilities in the vicinity of the proposed campus and Stadium Ireland on the Abbotstown site, the Deputy's question does not arise. The location of the proposed campus and Stadium Ireland at Abbotstown would in any event have resulted in major disruption to the laboratory and other facilities at this location. The Government has, therefore, decided that the only realistic option is to transfer these facilities elsewhere. I have already indicated in response to previous questions in the House that the cost of this relocation will be of the order of £90 million.
