Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

159 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if the Commissioners of Public Works have received the feasibility report in relation to flooding at Hazelhatch, Celbridge, County Kildare; the recommendations for flood alleviation; the funding available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6984/00]

The Commissioners of Public Works have received a draft report from their consulting engineers which assess three options for dealing with the flooding problems at Hazelhatch, Celbridge, County Kildare. This report, which is under consideration, has been forwarded to Kildare County Council and South Dublin County Council for attention and their observations are awaited.

The consultants' report, which includes an economic assessment of the options, also highlights the necessity for a number of additional surveys – ecological, topographical, etc – to be undertaken prior to the formulation of definitive proposals and the advancement of recommendations for any works. A full environmental impact assessment will also be required. Arrangements are being put in hand to advance these studies, the cost of which will be met from the allocation provided in the Vote for the Office of Public Works.
