Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.

Michael Ring

188 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason applicants for assistance to install central heating under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme are being told that they are low priority and will not be dealt with for some time. [6925/00]

Question:

189 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the changes, if any, made in health boards to deal with the applications for central heating under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6926/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 188 and 189 together.

As the Deputy may be aware, the housing aid scheme for the elderly is administered by the health boards on behalf of the Department of the Environment and Local Government. I have asked the chief executive officer of each health board to investigate this matter as a matter of urgency and reply directly to the Deputy.
