Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

192 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the provisions, if any, he has made for renal dialysis patients who will be visiting this country during 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6945/00]

A sum of £20 million revenue and capital funding has been committed over the next three years as part of my Department's strategic approach to the development of renal dialysis services. This investment is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the systems to cope with projected future demands, including the demand for services from overseas visitors to Ireland. Requests for holiday dialysis are dealt with on an individual basis by agencies as they arise and every effort is made to accommodate the individuals involved. The investment that is now under way in these services will further facilitate agencies in responding positively to requests as they arise.
