Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal.

Michael Ring

Question:

205 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position on the urban renewal tax designation scheme for towns in County Mayo; if his Department has accepted, without alteration, the recommendation submitted by Mayo County Council; when he will implement the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6594/00]

A total of five town renewal plans have been submitted by Mayo County Council under the town renewal scheme. The expert advisory panel is now in the process of examining the various town renewal plans submitted by county councils; the panel will make recommendations to me as to the areas to be designated and the incentives to be applied. Subject to the agreement of the Minister for Finance, I will then announce the designations and I expect to be in a position to do this in about two months.
