Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Michael Ring

Question:

206 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if particular roads in County Mayo can be upgraded to a national primary road and a national secondary road. [6595/00]

A comprehensive review of the national and regional road system was brought to a conclusion in 1994 with the Roads Act, 1993 (Declaration of National Roads) Order, 1994 (S.I. 209 of 1994), and the Roads Act, 1993 (Declaration of Regional Roads) Order, 1994 (S.I. No. 400 of 1994). The review was carried out in consultation with the local authorities and took account of representations received from a wide range of local interests.

There are no proposals to make significant changes to the classification of roads in the national or regional network in the near future. Traffic patterns on the network will, however, continue to be monitored in order to identify any long-term changes which might have implications for road classification.
