Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

223 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that, in an application for non-contributory old age pension which is the subject of an appeal (details supplied), the decision was based on incorrect information from a bank which has now acknowledged its mistake to his Department; if he will ensure that this application is retrieved from the appeals office and re-processed immediately in view of the fact the applicant is in receipt of only £44.50 per week; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6960/00]

The person's application for old age non-contributory pension was disallowed by a deciding officer on the basis that he had failed to disclose his means.

The person concerned appealed the decision to the social welfare appeals office. In the light of the information supplied by the Deputy the papers have been returned to the Department for further investigation. The person concerned will be notified of the outcome.
