Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Transfers.

Austin Currie

Question:

251 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if there is any provision under EU regulation or otherwise for a police officer serving with a British police force to transfer to the Garda Síochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6707/00]

Membership of An Garda Síochána is governed by the Garda Síochána (Admissions and Appointments) Regulations, 1988. There are no provisions within these regulations or in any EU instrument to provide for the transfer of personnel from another police service to the Garda Síochána.

Any person who meets the eligibility criteria set out in the regulations may apply to become a member of the force in the context of the normal competitions held to recruit members for the Garda Síochána.
