Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Pollution Equipment.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

76 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the situation regarding stockpiles of pollution equipment in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6653/00]

Under the International Maritime Organisation's Oil Pollution Preparedness and Response Convention, which Ireland gave effect to through the enactment of the Sea Pollution (Amendment) Act, 1999, harbour authorities, designated local authorities and oil installations must prepare oil spill contingency plans which include risk assessments for their areas of operation and provide lists of equipment held by them. These plans are currently being prepared by the harbour authorities.

My Department currently has three stockpiles of pollution equipment in Killybegs, Castletownbere and Dublin.
