Vol. 516 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Sports Stadium.

Ivor Callely

Question:

117 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the recommendations of the report by a company (details supplied) on a national sports stadium; the public and interested bodies consultation process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7165/00]

The Deputy will be aware that the feasibility study in question was overseen by the stadium steering committee which comprised influential business, sporting and public service figures. The study was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, a world renowned company which, in turn, had the expertise of a range of other consultants available to it in the preparation of the study.

In the preparation of its report the consultants initiated an extensive consultative process involving the following: the IRFU, the GAA, the FAI and the Athletics Association of Ireland, formerly BLE and the NACA; stadia management companies of similar facilities in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Portugal, Australia and the United States; 28 of the non-stadium based national governing bodies of sport; the main concert promoters and exhibition management companies in Ireland and the United Kingdom; the management of alternative entertainment and exhibition facilities in Ireland and the United Kingdom, and top 100 companies in Ireland.

A copy of the feasibility study is available in the Oireachtas Library.
