Vol. 516 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

133 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that, although additional accommodation for the FCJ secondary school in Bunclody, County Wexford, was sanctioned in January 1995, this project is only at stage IV with an amended M & E submission being processed at present; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is grave concern regarding the health and safety of staff and students working in a building which is structurally unsound owing to dry rot; the reason for the delay in bringing this project to completion; the steps, if he will take to ensure that building commences without further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7171/00]

An application for additional accommodation at FCJ secondary school is being processed at present. Difficulties have been encountered in having the requirements of my Department's planning and building unit incorporated into proposals emanating from the design team.

I assure the Deputy that the project will be progressed as quickly as possible.
