Vol. 516 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil Under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with two different topics. I propose to deal with the two topics separately and I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notice to my office. In regard to the first topic, I received notice from Deputy Yates and I call on him to state the matter.

I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise the urgent matters relating to the reason the Minister for Public Enterprise did not implement a Government decision to reappoint two executives of CIE as board directors by not writing to them and the former chairman, notifying them of their appointment since the Government decision at the Cabinet meeting in Cork; and if the Minister will make a personal statement explaining the disparity between her account in the Dáil yesterday and that of the former chairman as to when he submitted notification of his resignation.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

In regard to the second topic, I have received notice from Deputy Sargent and I call on the Deputy to state the matter.

I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to allow for a debate on the Government's greenhouse gas abatement strategy, given the strong pre-emptive rejection by IBEC of taxation measures to reduce emissions.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
