Vol. 516 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sportswear Merchandising.

Seán Ryan

Question:

13 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his views on the practice of merchandising sportswear and equipment targeted at children; the plans, if any, he has to discuss the issue with the sporting organisations or the firms involved in view of the economic pressure that this can put on low income families; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7033/00]

(Dr. McDaid): While I understand the Deputy's concern in this matter, the position is that the relationship between producer and consumer, regardless of the product in question, is a commercial matter and one in which I have no function.
