Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Ulick Burke

Question:

264 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to address the inequity that exists whereby milk quota purchase is tax deductible while suckler cow purchase is not; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8991/00]

The taxation changes concerning milk quota arose from the milk quota restructuring scheme which was announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development in October 1999. I have been informed by that Minister that there are no plans for a similar restructuring of the suckler cow quota scheme. I do not, therefore, have any proposals to amend the tax treatment of the suckler cow quota scheme.
