Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

John McGuinness

Question:

291 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will expedite an application to the South-Eastern Health Board for an adjustable bed for a disabled person (details supplied) who urgently requires the equipment; if the recent allocation to the South-Eastern Health Board for the purchase of this equipment has been spent in full in this area; and if a waiting list for equipment still exists. [9031/00]

The provision of aids and appliances, including an adjustable bed, in any individual case is a matter for the relevant health board. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer, South-Eastern Health Board with a request that he examine the query and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

I have also requested the chief executive officer, South-Eastern Health Board to provide the information requested in respect of expenditure of the funding provided to the South-Eastern Health Board from the supplementary estimate in December 1999 for aids and appliances and the current health board waiting list for aids and appliances.
