Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Civil Defence Headquarters.

Austin Currie

Question:

99 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Defence where the headquarters of the Civil Defence is currently located; the plans, if any, he has to dispose of this building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8784/00]

The Civil Defence branch of my Department is currently located in Ratra House in the Phoenix Park. The Deputy will be aware that, in the context of the White Paper on Defence, the Government approved the decentralisation of the Civil Defence branch of my Department to Roscrea, County Tipperary. The buildings currently occupied by the civil defence branch at Ratra House are the responsibility of the Office of Public Works and the question of their future use, when they are vacated, will be addressed by that office.
