Question:

154 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the decision, if any, reached on the sale of four houses at Orchard Park, the Curragh, County Kildare; if they have been sold to serving members of the Defence Forces; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8813/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 133 and 154 together.

To date 82 of the occupants of Orchard Park have agreed to purchase the quarters in which they are residing. In addition, the four vacant houses in the estate will be sold to serving members of the Permanent Defence Force following a tender competition. To date tenders have been accepted in respect of three of those houses while the fourth is subject to re-tender between the two highest bidders who both offered the same amount.

The remaining occupants have been contacted by officials of my Department who are at present endeavouring to establish the specific circumstances in each individual case. A decision in the matter will be taken when the Department's inquiries have been completed.
