Vol. 516 No. 6

Written Answers. - Electricity Generation.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

189 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the independent power producers she met officially prior to 17 February 2000, where the opening of the full electricity market was discussed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9099/00]

According to the records in my office, in the period from 1 January 1998 to 19 February 2000, the date of the initial opening of the electricity market, I have had meetings with representatives of the following prospective independent power producers about the liberalisation of the electricity market in Ireland: Aughinish Alumina Limited, Cement Roadstone Holdings/Viridian Power Resources Limited, Dungarvan Energy Limited, E-Power Limited, IVO/Bord na Móna/Elf Aquitaine and Marathon Power Ireland Limited.

These meetings provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on various aspects of market liberalisation resulting from implementation of the EU electricity directive.
