Question:

146 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of public health nurses in the health service in each of the years from 1990 to 2000. [9224/00]

The data supplied are from the health service personnel census, which is taken on 31 December of each year. The latest year for which data are available is 1998. The data for 31 December 1999 is currently being collected and will be available later in the year. The data cover the following grades – director of public health nursing, assistant director of public health nursing and public health nurse.
