Question:

149 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the funds allocated to the health promotion unit in 2000; the projects on which the funds are to be spent; and if he will give details of each project. [9227/00]

The health promotion unit has a budget of £4.611 million this year. These funds will be spent on a range of health promotion issues which can be broadly broken down into support for initiatives aimed at population groups, specific settings and topics. Other significant features of the budget include direct funding to health boards for the development of health promotion services, supporting research and evaluation, grants to voluntary organisations and the production and distribution of health promotion literature. Expenditure has also been earmarked for a number of national public awareness campaigns. The main projects and estimated cost for this year are set out as follows:
