Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

153 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health and Children when funding will be provided for the new health centre at Cootehill, County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9232/00]

The source of funding for health service capital developments, including health centres, is the funding available under the national development plan. Health boards were recently notified of indicative figures with regard to funding being made available under the plan, and each board was asked to submit to my Department, as soon as possible, an overall draft development plan for the NDP, to include, on a priority basis, lists of projects and initiatives within the various care programmes.

The issues of identifying priorities with regard to health centre developments in the North-Eastern Health Board area and the determination of the priority to be given to the Cootehill project are matters for the board, in the context of the preparation of its draft development plan.

Once the board's proposals are submitted to my Department, it is anticipated that the process of reaching agreement in relation to the projects which will be funded under the plan will be concluded without delay.
