Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Austin Currie

Question:

199 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give a commitment to enter into negotiations to acquire the site for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 15 in view of the decision of Fingal County Council to reserve a site in the Luttrelstown area and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9265/00]

The school in question was granted temporary recognition by my Department in September 1999. It is only when a school has demonstrated viability and has been granted permanent recognition that capital funds can be made available for the acquisition of a site and the provision of a school building.

An application for permanent recognition by the school referred to by the Deputy is under active consideration at present and a decision in the matter will be communicated to the school authorities as soon as possible.
