Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teleworking Scheme.

John Bruton

Question:

200 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will introduce teleworking operations into the mainstream public service employments under his aegis in accordance with the commitment given by the Government in its Programme for Prosperity and Fairness; and if he will make a statement on the changes required in each of the agencies under his aegis to fulfil this commitment by the Government. [9288/00]

Under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness, the Government has committed not only to introduce teleworking options into mainstream public service employment but also that all publicly-funded organisations will develop a teleworking policy for implementation by 2002. As the Deputy may be aware, the terms of a pilot teleworking scheme have been agreed to and it has been decided that it will operate in the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas. It is expected that this scheme will provide an insight into the administrative, management and other issues that teleworking will raise in a public service context and will provide guidance for the implementation of a teleworking policy in a broader sense.
