Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Austin Deasy

Question:

154 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance when details of the Government's plan to relocate approximately 10,000 civil servants from Dublin to the provinces will be announced; and if he will give an assurance that the distribution of Departments or sections of Departments will be carried out in an even-handed manner. [9558/00]

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

160 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Finance the position in relation to the decentralisation programme; if this programme will include offices for Inishowen, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9851/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 154 and 160 together.

As Deputies will be aware I have recently initiated a consultative process with my Government colleagues with a view to bring proposals before the Government prior to the summer recess. Until such time as the Government has had the opportunity to consider proposals for a new programme it would be inappropriate of me to comment on the likelihood of any particular centre being included in the programme. In relation to the selection of centres for inclusion in the forthcoming programme, the Government and I intend to be fair and even handed.
