Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Bernard Allen

Question:

191 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the discussions, if any, he has had with Comhairle na nOispidéal which is to abolish a number of permanent consultant posts, including six vacant posts in the Southern Health Board, three at the South Infirmary, Victoria Hospital, and two at the Mercy Hospital, Cork; and the posts being abolished in view of a newspaper report (details supplied). [9556/00]

The issue raised by the Deputy falls under the remit of Comhairle na nOspidéal, which is the statutory body responsible for regulating the number and type of appointments of consultant medical staffs in hospitals. My Department has asked the chief officer of Comhairle na nOspidéal to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
