Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medical School Applications.

Bernard Allen

Question:

216 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on recent figures which show that demand for places in the five Irish medical schools has fallen dramatically this year from 1,874 to 1,621; and the implications this has for the health services if this downward trend should continue. [9993/00]

Medicine remains a heavily over-subscribed subject for students entering third level education. I am satisfied that there are no implications for the future staffing of the Irish health care services.
