229 Mr. Fleming asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason there was no increase in the 2000 grant allocations for local improvement schemes to Laois County Council in view of the fact there was a 20% increase in the overall national allocation. [9665/00]

The detailed information requested is set out in the following table.

The increased funding for the local improvements scheme in 2000 was used to the greatest extent possible to reduce the numbers of applications on hands in those counties where the backlog was greatest. This policy did not permit an increased LIS allocation in 2000 for counties, including Laois, where a relatively small backlog existed.
