Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

232 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage treatment plant and upgrading of the sewerage system in Leenane and Clonbur, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9776/00]

A preliminary report for the Leenane sewerage scheme, which has been approved for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative, was approved in July 1999. As the estimated cost of the scheme is less than £1 million, further progress on it is a matter for Galway County Council.

A revised preliminary report for the Clonbur sewerage scheme was received in my Department in November 1999 but has not been approved. This scheme is included in a list of sewerage schemes for the period 2007-18 submitted by Galway County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments.

233 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of a sewerage treatment plant and upgrading of the sewerage system in Clifden, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9777/00]

The Clifden sewerage scheme was included in my Department's 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning. An updated preliminary report was received in the Department in February and is being considered.

Question:

234 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if funding will be made available to Kerry County Council to proceed with the Firies-Scartaglin southern B water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9817/00]

This scheme is third on the list of schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water services investment programmes for this and future years under the National Development Plan, 2000-06.

This scheme is thirteenth on the list of schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water services investment programmes for this and future years under the National Development Plan, 2000-06.
