Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Casual Trading Licences.

Tony Gregory

Question:

267 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request the Garda authorities to liaise with Dublin Corporation to properly regulate a street market (details supplied) in Dublin 1 so that only licensed traders operate there and to ensure the removal of unauthorised and criminal elements. [9864/00]

I can assure the Deputy that I have brought his concerns to the attention of the Garda authorities.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the market referred to by the Deputy is the subject of patrols by uniformed and detective gardaí from Fitzgibbon Street Garda station. I understand that casual trading licences are issued for the area by Dublin Corporation and that their officers inspect the streets on the day of the market. I am further informed that the gardaí liaise with Dublin Corporation in respect of trading in the area.
