Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

274 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if an application has been received for funding towards a centre planned by North West Indoor Arena, Falcarragh, County Donegal; the date the application was submitted; if it is being considered; and if funding has been committed toward this development. [9619/00]

The sports capital programme for 2000 was advertised in early December 1999 with a closing date of 11 February 2000 for receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,600 applications were received and my Department has no record of an application having been received from the group referred to by the Deputy.

Bernard Allen

Question:

275 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will meet a delegation from a club (details supplied) in County Cork to discuss the application it has made for a grant towards the development of its club facilities, a project which is costing over £200,000, before any decision is made on the 1,600 applications submitted. [9620/00]

The sports capital programme for 2000 was advertised in early December 1999 with a closing date of 11 February 2000 for the receipt of completed applications. Initial processing of the applications has commenced and a letter of acknowledgement has been issued to the club in question.

Applications received under the programme will be evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form and I hope to be in a position to announce the grant allocations by June 2000. In view of the large number of applications received under the programme, and my heavy schedule of commitments, I regret that I am not in a position to meet with the group concerned.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

276 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when funding will be announced under the lottery sports grants scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9852/00]

The sports capital programme for 2000 was advertised in early December 1999 with a closing date of 11 February 2000 for receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,600 applications were received.

All applications for financial assistance under the programme will be evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. Given the large number of applications received and the level of work involved in assessing these, I do not expect to be in a position to make the final announcements on the 2000 round of grant allocations until June next.
