Vol. 517 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

280 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has acquired the site at Littlepace, Castaheny, Dublin 15, for a new primary school; if so, the size of the site; the price paid; when work on the new school will commence; when it will be open to pupils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9577/00]

Terms for the acquisition of the site in question have been agreed. However, until the contract of sale has been drawn up and signed, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on the acquisition at this point.

A design team has been appointed and architectural planning for the new facilities will commence as soon as the site has been secured. It is not possible to say at this stage when construction will commence.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

281 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary funding for an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Monaghan; and, if so, when works will commence. [9579/00]

The Deputy will appreciate that my Department has a large number of school building projects on hand at present. Within this constraint, I can assure the Deputy that the application from the school in question for additional accommodation is being dealt with as quickly as possible.
